Read a Spiritual Classic this Year!

Certain spiritual books have had such an impact on the traditions of the Christian faith that they are rightfully known as classics. They have shaped the landscape and shed immense light on the workings of God in our world or how we can and should interact with Him and with each other with the end goal of heaven in mind. This achievement in penmanship is not by their own human nature, but by the unmistakable imprint of the Divine Spirit, the Holy Spirit working through them to produce these beautiful treasures. It is this very partnership with grace which opened their souls to the divine and led these incredible men and women to not only lead such holy lives, but be able to teach that way of living to others around them. Their influence was tremendous and continues to be relevant even centuries later.

I find reading spiritual books to be incredibly fruitful for my prayer life. Contemplating the sweet, simple wisdom of Saint Therese of Lisieux for example, in Story of a Soul, and implementing her little way into your own life, will lead you into a much greater appreciation for the small, simple joys of life. Saint Francis de Sales has been a mentor to me spiritually for the last several years. His Sainthood was made present to others in his friendships and he penned wonderful letters to so many such friends during his life, particularly the lay faithful, showing them the path to holiness in every day life. His book, Introduction to the Devout Life, is a book compiled of such letters, and is classic spiritual reading for someone looking to grow in their faith in the every day life God gave them. It is written in a clear, easy to understand way, even though it was written centuries ago. His messages are as relevant a blueprint for living today, as they were then.

If you are looking for growth in your spiritual life this year, I couldn't recommend reading a spiritual classic more! I have personally read several of these classics, and hope to read all of them at some point, as the Holy Spirit leads me.

Check out our opening collection now, and be sure to check back in the future as we continue to add more spiritual reads to our collections. Enjoy- and I hope you find them as life-giving to your prayer-life as I have!
