The Feast of the Rosary
This beautiful painting by Albrecht Durer is a classic of the northern High Renaissance period. Painted in 1506, it is considered one of the artist's crowning masterpieces of his large scale works. It showcases the Virgin mother holding the child Jesus, being crowned by cheribum, surrounded by men and women of various stations in life, all receiving their heavenly crowns as well as they kneel in adoration of the Child. The crowd is divided between those in religious life and the laity, an indication of the holiness we are all called to, no matter our vocations.
